Overview
The last day to make tax-deductible purchases, charitable contributions, establish certain retirement accounts, and execute strategic moves for the tax year. After midnight, most opportunities are permanently gone.
Who This Affects
- Every business owner who wants to reduce taxes
- Anyone considering equipment purchases (Section 179)
- Individuals planning charitable contributions
- Owners weighing retirement account funding
- Anyone needing to adjust entity structure before year end
What to Prepare
- Projected full-year profit and tax liability
- List of equipment or assets you could purchase
- Charitable giving plan and appreciated stock holdings
- Retirement contribution capacity (Solo 401k, SEP, etc.)
- Profit and loss through November for planning meeting
Cost of Missing This Deadline
There are no IRS penalties for missing this date, but the cost is often worse: permanently higher taxes. You cannot retroactively fund most retirement accounts, make Section 179 purchases, or claim charitable deductions after December 31. The deduction is gone forever.
We track every deadline and send reminders 30, 14, and 3 days before.
